Ignorance: America's drug of choice

I'm not usually one to talk politics, because it either turns into time of preaching to the choir or a no-win battle of "I know I'm right". I'm not a fan of either of these outcomes, which could stem from my ongoing bitterness of getting a 'B' in high school speech class even though my partner and I won the entire debate portion worth half our grade. Or it could have something to do with my non-confrontational approach to life: I mean really, can't we all just get along?

However, this time is different. When I watched this part of the Republican debate, I was utterly disgusted and vowed that if the GOP took presidential office next year, I might have to slit my wrists or move to another part of the world and claim Canadian citizenship.

"So, nice to meet you. My name's Katie, eh?"

*sigh*. I was extremely bored in my NY hotel room last night, so I watched most of "School Ties". The headmaster gave a speech that included the line, "this country needs an elite that cares more for honor, than for advantage; more for service than for personal gain." I realized how tenable that might have been when this country's elite was truly elite. But now that everyone expects to be elite, it seems natural that this ideal becomes harder to maintain.

Time to look at property near (or across) the border again. ;)

Wait, so you're saying it's not my A-mur-i-cun right to be elite? I thought I was entitled to be elite!!!

Did Duncan Hunter say that the Israelis were able to have openly gay people in the military but we can't? That's right. Because we have Judeo-Christian values and they don't. Oh wait. What's "Judeo" mean again?

I am appreciating the irony of a republican debate over a "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy that was incorporated under democratic reign in '93 when Clinton was president.
